The Trump Organization, which has owned the property since at least the 1980s, said it had never intended to lease or sell air conditioning to the government, according to a person familiar with the matter.

A spokeswoman for the company said it was unaware of the statement.

The company’s spokesman did not respond to requests for comment.

The news comes after several Republican lawmakers have expressed concerns that the Trump Organization may have breached a confidentiality agreement by using Trump Tower as a public-facing venue during the presidential campaign.

That agreement prohibits the use of Trump Tower for campaign purposes.

The company’s lawyers said in a statement that they would defend the agreement “in a vigorous manner.”
